Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP)
At Walsden St Peter's, Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) refers to the support, strategies and adaptations that are available for all pupils, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), as part of high-quality teaching and inclusive practice.
We believe that every child should be able to access a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum. Teachers carefully adapt lessons, resources and learning environments to meet the needs of individual pupils. This may include:
- Differentiated teaching and learning activities
- Visual aids and practical resources
- Additional scaffolding and support within lessons
- Adaptations to classroom environments and routines
- Opportunities for overlearning, pre-teaching and reinforcement
- Support with communication, language and social interaction
- Strategies to promote emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour
- Regular assessment and monitoring of progress
Ordinarily Available Provision is the first level of support for children who may need additional help. Most pupils' needs can be met through these inclusive approaches within the classroom. Where a child requires support beyond what is ordinarily available, the school will work closely with parents, carers and relevant professionals to identify and implement further targeted interventions or specialist provision.
